Irton with Santon Parish Council – Footpaths Project 2024
Irton with Santon Parish Council have recently made an application to the Lake District National Park to register two footpaths within the Parish as registered public footpaths.
For the applications to be successful it is likely that the council will need to demonstrate usage over a period of years. We would therefore be particularly interested to hear from anyone who has knowledge of these footpaths or has walked them, even though it may have been many years ago or only infrequently.
If the applications are successful we are hoping that these two footpaths will link with other footpaths in the area and provide an alternative to walking along the roads particularly between Santon Bridge and Eskdale Green.
The first footpath runs from Pond Cottage next to Irton Hall across the Frith fields to join the existing bridleway that runs through Irton Park between Santon Bridge and Slapestones.
The second footpath runs from Plumgarth Farmhouse in the direction of the Bowerhouse Bank to link with the bridleway in the direction of Miterdale and other Forestry England tracks through Keyhow Coppice in the direction of the Bowerhouse and Eskdale.
A map indicating the above routes (marked in red) is attached.
If you have knowledge or usage of these footpaths please either contact Tonia Noakes Parish Clerk at irtonwithsantonpc@gmail.com
