Loaves and Fishes: the Mills, Fish Ponds and Grange of Shap Abbey

The present Shap Abbey was built in 1199.

The Abbey was a religious house of an order of Canons (Monks) on the western bank of the River Lowther in the civil parish of Shap.

The talk will detail archival research about and surveys of the monastic structures adjacent to the Abbey.

In particular it includes a search for a lost, second mill.
